Contractor behind 900-home Salford scheme collapses

Begbies Traynor has been appointed as administrator over Beaumont Morgan Developments, the construction arm of Fortis Group.

The company’s collapse comes “as a result of the pandemic and the well-publicised inflationary cost pressures affecting the construction industry”, according to Begbies Traynor.

Stephen Katz and Asher Miller, both partners at Begbies Traynor, will lead the administration, according to Companies House.

Beaumont Morgan’s last financial results were for the year ended 27 March 2020.

They showed the company turned over £47m and made a pre-tax profit of £64,400. Its latest accounts are overdue.

Beaumont Morgan, based out of Lancastrian Office Centre on Talbot Road in Stretford, was delivering the 900-home Fortis Quay at Salford Quays.

Fortis Quay comprises four blocks, the tallest being the 27-storey, 290-home Northill. Mariners Quay and Victoria Quay, both due for completion in 2024, feature a combined 336 apartments.

The fourth block is Amplify, which Beaumont Morgan is building for housing association Clarion. Amplify features 271 apartments, 172 for private sale and 100 for shared ownership sale.

Fortis and Clarion were contacted for comment.

Beaumont Morgan is the latest North West contractor to appoint administrators following the collapse of several other outfits in recent years.

Bardsley Construction, Pochins, CPUK, Goodwins Construction Services Group, Harry Fairclough, Cruden Construction and Artez have all gone out of business since 2019.
