Contour Housing tackles eyesore site

Contour Housing Group has started work on 90 homes for rent and rent-to-buy in a site on the edge of Oldham town centre.

The £16m St Mary's development on a derelict cleared site will see the construction of 52 family homes for social rent and 41 Rent to Homebuy properties. Two homes will be bespoke adapted properties and four will be built to Code 6 for Sustainable Homes, believed to be the first in the North West."

Andrea Swanwick from Contour Housing Group is project manager. She said: "This is a major project for Contour Housing Group and an important part of Oldham Council's housing strategy.

"The project is not just about building new homes but breathing new life into the wider area. A major part of our remit will be working with the existing local community on a range of initiatives which we hope will bring wider benefits."

The first phase of units are due to complete in summer 2012 with the remainder a year later.

Contractor for the scheme is Rok Group, cost consultants and planning supervisor is Simon Fenton Partnership, architect is Nichol Thomas, structural engineers Capita and the project manager is Arcus.
