An application for a 15-storey block made up of 176 apartments and an office at ground floor is earmarked for approval at Preston City Council’s planning committee this week.
Heaton Group’s proposed development at Pole Street would be made up of 109 one-bedroom apartments and 67 two-bedroom apartments, with 52 affordable flats. The scheme would be stepped from six storeys to its full height of 15 storeys.
A central six-storey core would hold public space in the centre of the project.
The site was previously occupied by a job centre, which has been demolished.
Letters of objection have been received regarding the height of the scheme, with comments stating the project would block out light, along with letters highlighting the demolition of the previous building on the site was done so without planning consent.
Despite these issues, the council offices have recommended the scheme for approval as it has “given special regard to the preservation of the setting of identified designated heritage assets, and has identified less than substantial harm to one. It is considered this harm would be outweighed by public benefits as a result of the development.”
