Conlon wins Lancashire school job

Preston-based Conlon Construction has been awarded a £2m contract to build a science block at Lytham St Annes Technology & Performing Arts College.

The new and the work on the development of six new laboratories is expected to be completed in June 2011.

Conlon will create six labs for chemistry, physics and biology, before demolishing the original, outdated labs.

Michael Conlon, construction director of Conlon Construction, said: "The new labs will be fantastic and a credit to the school. It's great to be working with Lancashire County Council again and we are very proud to be involved in this important project."

Cllr Susie Charles, cabinet member for children and schools, said: "Lytham St Annes Technology and Performing Arts College was rated as outstanding by Ofsted in its inspection six months ago and its attainment rates are already above average, so I can only imagine the difference that state-of-the-art science labs will make. I am sure that the whole school community is very excited about the new science block and I look forward to seeing it on completion."
