Conlon begins Prescot Leisure Centre

The Preston-based construction firm has started work on a £1.4m leisure centre to replace a building that was demolished last year.

Conlon, commissioned by Knowsley Council, will build a 5,380 sq ft centre with gym facilities, changing rooms and a coffee bar at Prescot Community Centre.

Conlon will upgrade the outdoor football pitches, and introduce seven caged all-weather, five-a-side pitches to replace the current full size pitch.

Whilst the work is being carried out, residents will use alternative facilities at Knowsley Leisure & Culture Park, as well as the borough's centres for learning.

Cllr Eddie Connor, cabinet member for leisure, community and culture, said: "I'm pleased that work has commenced on site, which will deliver improved leisure facilities in Prescot for our residents – something we have always been committed to providing.

"This latest investment will complement the work carried out a few years' ago on the outdoor pitches and bring leisure facilities in Prescot up to modern standards."

Michael Conlon, construction director at Conlon Construction, said: "The area is in much need of modern sports and fitness facilities and this development will add to the existing amenities for the benefit of local people."
