Congestion charge ‘No’ campaign gathers pace

Several big-hitting businesses opposed to the road charging proposals for Greater Manchester have formalised their campaign in a new body, the Greater Manchester Momentum Group.

Property and transport giant Peel Holdings leads the pack with Harvey Nichols, Makro, Deloitte, Brabners Chaffe Street and Hydes Brewery among the other early signatories. Trade pressure groups the Federation of Small Businesses, Forum of Private Business and Road Haulage Association are also on board.

The Association of Greater Manchester Associations launched a bid last year for £3bn of Transport Innovation Funds from the Government, to pay for public transport improvements ahead of introducing a road pricing system.
