College unveils new campus plans

Lancaster & Morecambe College has submitted detailed plans for the redevelopment of the college campus, designed by Ellis Williams Architects.

The college was awarded £2m by the Skills Funding Agency and will add £6m from its own reserves to fund the first phase of the redevelopment project.

 Lancaster Hexagon buildingSubject to planning, the first phase of the project will start this summer with a new music and media centre due to open in September 2012. The first phase will include new conferencing facilities, due for completion in the early part of 2013 as well as a new-look Hexagon teaching building and Construction & Engineering Centre in September 2013.

The Construction & Engineering Centre is being developed in conjunction with local employers to ensure students get the best possible training on the latest equipment. The new facility will include a renewable energy centre and biomass boiler.

Lancaster & Morecambe College has also been working with Ellis Williams Architects to put together a masterplan to redevelop the entire Morecambe Road site over the next 10 years.

Lancaster & Morecambe College will hold an open evening on Tuesday 10 July from 4.30pm to 7pm where members of the public will be able to find out more about the new facilities and courses offered at college.
