Co-op Food unveils expansion plan

The company plans to open at least 300 outlets during the next three years. Its strategy was launched at BCSC in Manchester and includes a renewed focus on city centre locations.

It plans to double the size of its food acquisition, construction and location analysis teams during 2011. The three teams currently employ 30 people in total.

The Co-operative Group acquired the Somerfield supermarket chain in March 2009, adding around 800 stores to its portfolio.
