Exchange Flags, where CMS' Liverpool team will be based

CMS opens Liverpool office

Global law firm CMS has hired Abigail Dry from DWF to head up its new Liverpool base at Exchange Flags, its 10th office in the UK and second in the North West.

Dry, who has been at partner at DWF’s Liverpool office for around four years, also previously worked for Hill Dickinson, and will lead CMS’ new office in the city. CMS said the hire was down to Dry’s “skillset and proven track record,” especially in retail and leisure. The law firm has not yet confirmed how many staff will be based at the office at Exchange Flags.

The launch of the Liverpool office follows significant growth in the law firm’s Manchester office, which has added to its construction and real estate teams in the last 12 months.

The firm added six new staff to its construction team, based in Spinningfields, in 2018, including Charlotte Eccles, who joined from London real estate firm Forsters in November.

In the past 12 months, it has also hired Kate Jones from Brabners, Chris Alman from Pennington Manches, and Nigel Lewis from Gowling WLG, as well as adding Elizabeth Ormesher, who relocated from CMS’ London office. It also hired Nick Case from Herbert Smith Freehills in November.

CMS also added to its real estate team last year hiring four recruits from Squire Patton Boggs, Eversheds, Blunts, and Simpson Millar.

Projects the construction team is advising on include Mayfield, where the team is the sole legal advisors to the Mayfield Partnership, led by developer U+I, which is pressing forward with an £800m overhaul of the site next to Piccadilly Station.

Other projects the CMS team is working on include Renaker’s Deansgate Square; Marcus Worthington Group’s speculative office development at 125 Deansgate; and Far East Consortium’s £1bn Northern Gateway, a 15,000-home masterplan stretching from Victoria Station to Collyhurst.
