CMS makes construction hire

Law firm CMS has recruited to its Manchester-based construction team by hiring Nick Case from London-based Herbert Smith Freehills.

Case started this week at CMS’ Spinningfields base as a dispute resolution specialist after seven years with his previous employer, and is the construction’s team’s fifth new hire in the past 12 months.

The construction team has also recently hired from Brabners and Pennington Manches, and projects it is advising on include Mayfield, where the team is the sole legal advisors to the Mayfield Partnership, led by developer U+I, which is pressing forward with an £800m overhaul of the site next to Piccadilly Station.

Other projects the CMS team is working on include Renaker’s Deansgate Square; Marcus Worthington Group’s speculative office development at 125 Deansgate; and Far East Consortium’s £1bn Northern Gateway, a 15,000-home masterplan stretching from Victoria Station to Collyhurst.

Chris Hallam, northern head of the CMS’ engineering, projects & construction group said: “I am delighted that Nick has joined us. This underlines the firm’s ability to attract the most talented lawyers from all over the country to our fast-growing Manchester office.”

Earlier this month, the firm also added three recruits to its real estate team from Squire Patton Boggs, Eversheds, and Blunts. This team is headed up by partner Mark Haywood.
