Chorley town centre leisure development passed

Manchester-based architecture practice, AEW, has secured full planning permission for a £12.9m extension of Market Walk anchored by Reel Cinemas on behalf of the local authority.

The new scheme will include a two-storey building providing 85,000 sq ft of retail, leisure and office space; including a multiplex cinema; improved public realm and car parking.

AEW was first appointed by Chorley Council as architect for the scheme in early 2014.

Gareth Jones, associate at AEW, said: “This planning approval represents a key stage in the regeneration for Chorley town centre, which will create a new focal point for the community. Following the council’s acquisition of the Market Walk shopping centre in 2013 we have worked closely with them and the appointed consultants to produce a scheme that will have a hugely significant and positive impact on the town centre. This scheme will provide a fantastic boost for the town’s night time economy and create new destination retail space.”

The council hopes to start work in the New Year.
