Celebrate Cheshire sign-up passes 1,000

Celebrate CheshireMore than 1,000 people have registered to attend the 'business day' of the two-day Celebrate Cheshire expo next Friday, 16 September.

Chris Brown, chief executive of Marketing Cheshire, organiser of the event, told sponsors and stakeholders at a reception at Eaton Park last night that the initial target of 1,000 registrations had been surpassed with ten days to go.

The Friday programme includes a breakfast debate hosted by the Financial Times, an exhibition with more than 60 companies showcasing services and products and a series of seminars to help businesses gain new ideas, insight and contacts.

Companies exhibiting at the event at Chester Racecourse include Peel Group, Pochin, Cheshire Oaks, M&S Money; MEPC Birchwood Park, MBNA, Bentley Motors, Grosvenor, Q Hotels, Mornflake and Urenco.

The second day of the event, on Saturday 17 September, is aimed at consumers and job-hunters and will showcase the recruitment and lifestyle assets of Cheshire and Warrington.

Speaking at the cocktail reception last night at the Duke of Westminster's Cheshire estate, Neville Chamberlain, chairman of Cheshire Business Leaders, said the expo was about "telling the world about how good Cheshire is as a place to do business." The expo should "help smaller suppliers reach new markets and gain new contacts and ideas."

Christine Gaskell, director of Bentley Motors and chairman of Cheshire & Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership, said Cheshire's business strengths remained "one of the country's best kept secrets" and the sub-region "ought to have a far higher profile".

Place North West, is hosting two seminars on the Friday – regeneration hot spots in the morning and growth sectors in the afternoon.

The regeneration hot spots session will feature presentations from Cheshire East Council on plans for Crewe, as well as Chester Renaissance, Muse Developments about its vision for Warrington and rural economy expert Rob Hindle.

The afternoon will focus on key sectors with potential for growth in Cheshire and Warrington with presentations from EA Technology on energy and the environment, GVA on logistics and manufacturing and Chester-based law firm Aaron & Partners on the professional and financial services market.
