Salix Homes has chosen the contractor to build 90 houses in Swinton as part of a multi-phase social housing scheme.
Casey is set to kick off phases three and four of the development, which focussed around five streets in Swinton, between Moorside and Swinton railway stations. Around 150 properties on the site are being demolished due to structural issues caused by mining.
The third and fourth phases include the demolition of 86 homes, and 90 homes will be built in their place, including a mix of social housing, along with some for private sale or shared ownership.
Galliford Try Partnerships is on board for the opening phases; 22 socially-rented homes are already complete and occupied, with a further 48 due to complete in the summer.
Overall, the scheme will see 160 homes delivered, 120 of which will be social housing. The entire development is due to complete by February 2021.
Terry McBride, development manager at Salix Homes, said: “As the first two phases of the Poets development near completion and the first residents settle into their new homes, we are very pleased to announce Casey as our principal contractor to deliver the final phase of this ambitious project.
“At a time when social and affordable housing is in such short supply, we’re very proud this development is not only providing a long-term solution to the subsidence-hit properties, but is also increasing housing choice in the area, bringing new, modern homes to both people on the social housing register and aspiring homeowners.”
