Carillion on site with new Stockport council office

Carillion has started work on the new civic building for Stockport council on Edward Street.

The £12m, 45,000 sq ft, five-storey building was designed to achieve BREEAM 'excellent' rating for environmental sustainability, making it the first civic building in the borough to hold this accolade.

The building will incorporate green and sustainable architectural features, including green roof, solar shading and a rainwater harvesting system.

The former Ponsonby House will be completely demolished to make way for the new base for around 400 council workers.

The entire project is expected to complete at the end of 2010 with the official opening planned for early 2011.
