Care scheme plans to go on show

Calico will hold a consultation event later this week to show draft proposals for a £15m retirement development in Rawtenstall, Rossendale.

The project off Cherry Tree Crescent was designed by PRP Architects and would contain 65 independent living apartments for elderly people, with access to flexible health care and support services, as well as community facilities. Priority will be given to Rossendale residents.

Ed Barber, managing director of Calico, said: "This is a massive investment and a new concept which will combine housing, social care, and health services as part of this £15m development.

"Not only will it create a potential 60 new jobs, it will also meet needs that have already been identified in Rossendale and will provide high quality accommodation and services to people who want to live there, at a cost they can afford.

Calico is holding an Open Day on Thursday 16 May, from 5:15pm to 7:30pm, at Balladen Primary School, Linden Lea, Rawtenstall.

If approved, the work would take approximately 18 months, with a start date sometime between January and March 2014, and an opening date of early autumn 2015.
