Capricorn Business Park decision delayed

An application to bring forward the 60,000 sq ft commercial elements of Capricorn Business Park in Sandbach has been withdrawn on technical grounds.

It is understood that an unspecified “technicality” caused issues before it was to be discussed by Cheshire East Council’s delegated powers.

Developer and landowner W&S Sandbach is to resubmit its proposals and expects to win approval within the next two months.

If approved, the mixed-use commercial scheme would include two office blocks of 16,000 sq ft and 13,200 sq ft respectively, a 23,000 sq ft, 63-bedroom hotel, 5,700 sq ft pub, and a McDonald’s south of junction 17 alongside the M6.

McDonalds is expected to open in spring 2021.

W&S Sandbach secured outline planning permission for the wider, 56-acre site in 2015, and a prior detailed application for housing on part of the site was granted in 2015.

Construction is underway on 237 homes on behalf of Barratt Homes. Persimmon is also on site building 136 homes as part of the same planning consent.

The commercial part of scheme is designed by Craig Foster Architects, and Prescott & Partners acts as agent.
