Capenhurst site renewal continues

Capenhurst Nuclear Services has awarded a £5.5m contract to Herte UK to remove asbestos and clean areas of the nuclear-licensed site in Cheshire.

Herte UK, based in Preston Brook, Warrington, beat rivals to the public contract advertised in May with a budget range between £5m and £8m. The contract will run until mid-2015.

Capenhurst Nuclear Services is a wholly owned subsidiary of Urenco UK and its tenant at Capenhurst. Urenco is currently building major new premises at the site, which it acquired from the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority in 2011.

The land sale reduced NDA's net liabilities for managing and clearing the site while also paving the way for Urenco to invest in the new facilities as required in order to meet future customer demand.
