Call for public inquiry into Sainsburys plans

Westhoughton Town Council is to ask the Government to call in plans for a new 25,000 sq ft Sainsburys store planned for a site currently occupied by Westhoughton Cricket Club after Bolton Metropolitan Council approved proposals.

Council officers at Westhoughton will write to Communities Secretary Hazel Blears asking the Government to hold a public inquiry into plans for the site at Cricketers' Way, claiming that not enough local people were consulted and that not enough consideration was taken of the potential impact on the town centre.

Westhoughton Cricket Club is to move to a site in Daisy Hill to make way for the £7.4m development.
