C-TEC expansion approved

The electronic equipment manufacturer has secured planning permission for a 20,000 sq ft expansion of its head office and manufacturing facility in Martland Park, Wigan.

The £1.5m project designed by K2 Architects is a two-story extension housing a new entrance space, additional offices, meeting and conference rooms, a staff canteen and private client dining for 50 guests.

K2 was also the architect behind the 73,000 sq ft first phase of the office in Challenge Way, which was completed in June 2012 and consolidated three buildings into one.

C-TEC employs around 200 people and makes a range of domestic and commercial safety alarms.

Andrew Foster, managing director of C-TEC, said: "As one of the biggest employers in the Wigan area we have seen a sustained and steady growth over the last 18 months, despite a difficult time for manufacturing. Our expansion plans reflect our ambition to be the UK's leading independent manufacturer of life safety electronic equipment.''
