Buttress adds to senior team

Matthew Burl has joined the practice as associate director, having previously worked establishing Manchester offices of HawkinsBrown and John McAslan + Partners.

At Buttress, Burl will be responsible for the development of the practice’s education team. He will also lead on higher education and independent schools projects.

He spent more than three years at the Manchester office of HawkinsBrown and previously worked for 14 years at John McAslan.

At HawkinsBrown he was involved in a number of higher education projects including Leeds Beckett University’s Creative Arts Building, the new student centre and university squares at UCLan, and the Schuster Annexe for the University of Manchester.

Managing director Gavin Sorby said: “Matthew is a skilled designer with an exceptional track record in the delivery of new build, refurbishment and strategic masterplans both regionally and internationally.

“His previous experience and in-depth knowledge of the higher education sector will be invaluable to the growth of our team and we are delighted to welcome him on board.”
