Bury minded to approve Spen Moor plans

Peel Land & Property has been granted a conditional planning consent to build 191 homes on Spen Moor in Bury.

The consent is subject to agreement being reached with Bury Council over the long-term management of land in and around the 25-acre development site.

The application is for new residential development between Bury Road and Bolton Road, creation of 'ecological enhancement ponds' and a new road junction. There will also be a new cycle route alongside the former Bury-Bolton railway line. Peel will give £68,000 to Bury Council to spend on nearby primary schools.

Phil Rothwell, planning director of Peel, said: "The Spen Moor site was one of Peel's first acquisitions in the early 1980s. Peel have unsuccessfully attempted to secure planning permission for the site for many years so we are very pleased to have secured a 'minded to approve' resolution from Bury planning committee."

Barton Willmore advised Peel.
