Burnley cinema to become supermarket

A discount retailer will take over the Hollywood Park building once operator Reel relocates to Maple Grove Developments’ £18m Pioneer Place in 2023.

The 30,000 sq ft cinema is located on Manchester Road. Under plans lodged by Maple Grove and approved by Burnley Council, the building would be reconfigured to house a 22,000 sq ft supermarket.

The complex also contains a drive thru Burger King and a pub called the Star and is owned by KRNS Properties.

No official announcement has been made on the supermarket operator.

Earlier this year, Maple Grove’s Pioneer Place, a leisure development on Curzon Street, won planning approval from Burnley Council.

The proposals feature the relocated 18,800 sq ft cinema and five retail and leisure units totalling 12,750 sq ft.

Smith & Love Planning Consultants, and architect Ratcliffe Groves Partnership are consulting on the scheme.
