Brownsfield Mill conversion set to start

Developers Town Centre Securities and Urban Splash are set to start on a redevelopment of Brownsfield Mill in Manchester into 31 loft-style apartments.

In a trading update this morning, TCS said the development was “ready to commence”, and a 12-month construction programme is due to get underway in the coming weeks. Urban Splash will deliver the scheme through its in-house contractor.

Apartments at the scheme, designed by Stephenson Studio, range between 830 sq ft and 2,600 sq ft, and prices start from £275,000.

The grade two-listed mill in Ancoats was built in 1825 and the redevelopment will be named Avro, after the building’s earlier occupiers, aircraft manufacturers AV Roe & Co.

TCS is also eyeing a completion date of May 2019 for Burlington House, a residential project in the Piccadilly Basin.

The 90,000 sq ft project has been designed by SimpsonHaugh, and will include 91 apartments. Work started in January 2017.

Other projects under way in the area include a 138-bedroom hotel, to be operated by Dakota Hotels, which started on site in October. Leeds-based GMI Construction is the main contractor.

TCS has full planning consent for Eider House on Ducie Street. Designed by Cartwright Pickard, the project includes 128 apartments for private rent in blocks ranging between eight and 10 storeys in height.

The developer has also added former John Lewis property director Jeremy Collins to its board as a non-executive director. Collins will join the company on 1 February.

TCS’ project on Tariff Street is due to complete in May 2019

Strange I thought aircraft production started after 1903 and the Wright brothers first powered flight There you go they were producing aircraft parts in Ancoats in anticipation of the big day 75 years later!

I’ve just had a look at the spec on US’s website. Prices starting at £345K? For a one bed? Surely this is a typo. As nice a building as it is, it is still located on a noisy main road and virtually in Ancoats

@Steve, your comment seems to imply that because this is near Ancoats the price should be lower. It suggests that the pace of development in this city is leaving you behind as Ancoats is an incredibly desirable and high value place to live. New townhouses on George Leigh Street are selling for £500k.
