Brookhouse’s supermarket proposal approved

Brookhouse Group has won detailed planning consent for a new superstore and restaurant at Parsonage Retail Park in Leigh.

The new 138,000 sq ft Sainsbury's will be the first phase of a major mixed-use development, including more than 150 houses, granted outline planning permission earlier this year.

The scheme incorporates a new link road between Atherleigh Way and Parsonage Road. Sainsbury's is relocating from its existing smaller store next door.

Mike Nuttall, group surveyor at the Brookhouse Group, said: "We hope the proposals will be welcomed as they secure new employment and will attract further significant investment in Leigh."

North West architectural practice, Cassidy & Ashton, designed the scheme. Neil Dermott of Cassidy & Ashton said: "The new store will have a high energy efficiency rating and has been designed to allow maximum natural lighting through the glazed facade. It encapsulates the modern concept of a food retail environment and, combined with the planned highways improvements, will create an attractive and accessible shopping destination."

The new store is expected to complete in late 2012/early 2013.
