Bridgewater Park earmarked for resi

Working on behalf of Kingmoor Park Properties, HOW Planning has submitted an outline planning application for 424 homes at Bridgewater Business Park in Leigh.

The development will include a mix of two- to four-bedroom houses and one- and two-bedroom apartments, alongside 2.6-acres of open space.

The park has had planning approval in place for a mixed employment and residential development for the past three years, but according to HOW during this time has attracted little interest from business operators, and potential residential developers have expressed a preference for a solely residential development.

The site is no longer considered suitable for employment use and contains several empty and unused buildings.

Richard Barton, associate at HOW Planning, said: "There has been quite a lot of interest shown in the redevelopment of Bridgewater Business Park into a residential scheme, but house builders are reluctant to get involved whilst it is still classed as a mixed use site. We are hoping to secure a change of use in principle to entirely residential which we believe will help kick start development at what is currently an underutilised piece of land, but one with huge potential."
