Brace of Cheshire markets advance

Market Asset Management has been named as the new operator for Crewe Market Hall, while a target opening date of summer 2022 has been confirmed for Chester’s new indoor market.

MAM, which will also run the rest of Crewe’s markets, will start from spring 2021, initially opening five days a week from the refurbished hall

Cheshire East Council said there will be a regular programme of activities and demonstrations and flexibility for the building to be opened up during the evening for events.

Hayden Ferriby, commercial director at Colchester-based MAM, said: “We are passionate about restoring markets to the heart of their community, and as a company we believe that markets are more important than ever, supporting small businesses, creating employment and becoming a focal point for local events and entertainment.”

Cheshire West & Chester Council, for its part, has launched new branding and a vision for the market once it opens at the new site in the heart of the Northgate development.

Recruitment of traders – both new and those operating at the current market site – for the new market is to begin from January, with Barker Proudlove acting as letting agent.

CWAC leader Cllr Louise Gittins said: “Now that the long-awaited Northgate phase one scheme is underway, I am pleased to unveil the new branding which looks forwards to a new phase in the city’s trading history as we create a modern, traditional market for Chester.”

Place North West’s Cheshire Development Update will be held via Remo on Thursday 26 November
