Bowmer & Kirkland secures Altrincham health centre contract

Citybranch has selected Bowmer & Kirkland to build the South Trafford Health & Wellbeing Centre, on the former site of the Altrincham General Hospital.

Trafford Council approved plans from Citybranch last year, for the construction of an 88,000 sq ft facility, built around the hospital’s Victorian façade.

The project is backed by a £35m forward funding deal with Canada Life. The health centre is pre-let to NHS Property Services on a 30-year lease, in a structure that will allow the NHS to acquire the freehold interest at the end of the period.

The bespoke facility will include a number of GP practices, a pharmacy and café, as well as a health and wellbeing care co-ordination centre, and a new library for Trafford Council.

There will also be new public realm, with a square built around Pott Street.

The scheme is due for completion in summer 2018. AFL is the architect, Turner & Townsend is employer’s agent and quantity surveyor on the project.
