Blackpool seeks Winter Gardens project consultants

Blackpool Council is assembling the team for the renovation of Winter Gardens with the mechanical and electrical services and structural engineering briefs the latest published.

The sensitive project is being overseen by specialist heritage architects Donald Insall Associates, who were appointed last month.

Blackpool Council bought the Winter Gardens, along with Blackpool Tower, Louis Tussauds and the Golden Mile Centre from Leisure Parcs in March using European and Government funding, bringing it into public ownership for the first time.

Blackpool Winter GardensThe first phase of works at the Grade 2 listed building will repair Floral Hall and open up the facility for visitors all year round and restore the entrance on Church Street and Coronation Street.

The mechanical and electrical services and structural engineering contracts are each valued at between £150,000 and £250,000.

Initial work will begin in November and run through until February 2011. The structural engineering contract brief, however, states a tenure of 42 months.
