Blackburn’s Beacon Centre nears completion

Bardsley Construction is on schedule to finish the latest building in Blackburn College's new campus before the end of this year.

The new £13.8m building will be 88,000 sq ft, reduced from the 150,000 sq ft proposed before funding from the Learning and Skills Council was cut. It will house a new learning resource centre, student services, learner support and teaching space for art and design, childcare and health and social care.

It is the third phase of the new campus. Phase one, the £7m St Paul's Centre was opened in 2007 and phase two, also constructed by Bardsley, the £14m University Centre at Blackburn College, officially opened last year.

The third building will have its main entrance off a new landscaped area along St Paul's Gardens. There will be glass frontages along Nab Lane with a new link over to Montague Street.
