BE’s Baxendell to coach Russian rugby backs

Former Sale Sharks Rugby Union player and now coach Jos Baxendell has accepted a consultancy role with the Russian Rugby Union.

The Russian team is currently 16th in the world and is aiming to qualify for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. Baxendell will work alongside the national team's director of rugby, Steve Diamond, coaching the backs.

Jos BaxendellBaxendell, pictured, will spend ten weeks split over a six month period with the Russian squad, joining them at training camps in Canada, South Africa, Namibia and Spain as well in Russia. He said: "I am looking forward to the challenge, it is certainly a different environment from the weekly grind of the Guinness Premiership and it will be interesting to experience a different culture, work with international standard players and try to improve the team with the ultimate goal of assisting Russia in gaining qualification for the World Cup. From a property point of view I am not out of the UK for more than ten days at a time so as a team we will be able to keep things ticking along in a tough market and it means we can keep our agency team together unlike a lot of other firms."

Baxendell spent 13 years as a player at Sale, working as a consultant at Warrington-based commercial property agents BE Group during that time.

Director of agency at BE Group, Vince Sandwell, added: "The other member of our agency team, Simon Roddam, is lead singer of the up-and-coming rock band Eighth Wave and he has recently toured the UK's 02 Academy venues, so as long as they are not both away at the same time we have ample cover on the ground!"
