Berg hires property partner

The law firm has appointed property specialist, Ruth McCarthy, as partner in real estate and property finance in the Manchester office. She joined from Gunnercooke and has also been a partner at Slater Heelis and Linder Myers.

McCarthy specialises in managing complex investment, development and property finance transactions. She has been involved in the acquisition and development of major land holdings throughout the UK and has advised banks, short-term funders and peer-to-peer crowd lenders.

McCarthy said: “I have always admired the independent Berg culture along with the energy, enthusiasm and ambition of the firm, so when the opportunity arose I had no hesitation to take it.

“There are lots of opportunities to develop the real estate offering at Berg, as a result of the excellent litigation practice, and I look forward to working with the team and build on this platform.”

Berg’s managing director, Richard Clark, commented: “The appointment of Ruth is another high profile one for berg and demonstrates our commitment to developing the firm’s reputation in the real estate and property finance sector.”

Ian Barker, the outgoing head of property at Berg, is due to leave shortly to join Eversheds.
