Bellway completes Melling acquisition

The housebuilder has completed the purchase of a 14-acre site in Melling, Sefton, with planning permission for 149 homes.

Situated next to Rainbow Park, the site is near Kirkby train station and is allocated for housing use under Sefton’s Local Plan.

Bellway’s plans include a mix of one, two, three, and four-bed homes, with 44 of these earmarked as affordable. Work has now started on the first plot of the site, following the installation of utilities, and the first show homes are due to complete in the summer.

Planning permission was granted in June last year; Bellway’s Section 106 agreement includes an education contribution of £317,250 to Melling Primary School, the provision of a bus stop on Waddicar Lane, and a £50,000 contribution towards improvement to Rainbow Park.

Prior to receiving planning permission, the scheme was met with resistance by residents, with a number of petitions against the development put forward and endorsed by local councillor Anthony Carr. Residents argued against a loss of green space, the impact on the local road network, and concerns over safe access to the site.
