Bellway Homes has acquired a 13.7-acre site in Failsworth for residential development.
The site is situated off Broadway and incorporates the Grade II-listed Failsworth Lodge building, more commonly referred to as the Lancaster Club. Football club Oldham Athletic intended to relocate to the site several years ago but was thwarted by the Charity Commission, leading it to sell its landholding to Oldham Council in 2011.
Bellway has received planning consent and will build 148 houses at the site – 104 three-bedroom and 44 four-bedroom houses. There will also be five one-bedroom and four two-bedroom apartments inside the lodge building. The scheme will be called Lancaster Gardens.
Louise Chamberlain, sales director at Bellway Homes, said: “Lancaster Gardens is a wonderful development for Bellway Homes. It is a charming conversion project, combined with the creation of expertly designed, quality new build homes, all within ideal commuting distance from Manchester.
“We expect high demand for the homes at Lancaster Gardens from homebuyers across Oldham eager to buy a luxurious property and a small piece of history at this development.”
Construction will start in the coming months, and the first properties are scheduled to be released for sale in the autumn.
