Beech to submit plans for New Cross residential

Beech Design & Build is set to put in an application for a 155-home mixed-use scheme in the New Cross area of Manchester in the coming weeks.

The developer and builder is planning a private rented project with residential amenity spaces, including private roof terraces for residents. The building, at the corner of Rochdale Road and Bendix Street, reaches 15 storeys at its highest point.

There will also be two retail units at ground floor level, one with an outdoor terrace, and a gym.

The site is currently used as a surface car park.

Subject to planning approval, Beech plans to start on site next summer on an 18-month build programme. Beech Design & Build is acting as architect and main contractor on the project.

A planning application will be submitted in the next month, following a public consultation event last week.

New Cross, near the Northern Quarter, is one of Manchester’s emerging neighbourhoods, with a regeneration framework for the area put forward by the city council in 2015.

Is there ever going to be any properties built that are affordable for single first time buyers?

By Sharon

I know right! Seems like all these apartments going up are for couples.

By Andrew

Single income Andrew – the context was affordability.

By Troll watch

Indeed it was and single income usually refers to one person (singular). Couples usually refers to duel income (two lots of singular). Seems I was correct and agreeing with Sharon. Back to your bridge TW.

Affordability is an issue but also availability. All new building projects appear to be aimed at Investors only!
