BDP relocating studio to Liverpool One

Architect firm BDP is relocating its Liverpool studio to new offices in the heart of Grosvenor's 42-acre regeneration development Liverpool One next spring.

The new studio in One Park West will be headed by Andrew Teage, who has recently been made an associate director with the company.

Teage, who specialises in urban planning and regeneration, also leads BDP's north of England town planning team. He has already undertaken a number of significant masterplanning and strategic development plan projects in Liverpool and the wider city region. These include Liverpool Ropewalks, north Huyton, Widnes Waterfront, the Peel Knowsley and Linacre neighbourhoods of Bootle, Hoylake and West Kirby and Birkenhead's Woodside development area.

Teage is also currently working on several other commissions including South Liverpool Housing Group's vision for the large Speke estate at the southern gateway to the city, Chester's Renaissance Vision and a residential-led development on the outskirts of Ellesmere Port town centre.

Terry Davenport, who has been head of the Liverpool studio since it opened in 2003 and led BDP's Liverpool One masterplan project from inception to completion, will take on a wider role as the northern head of BDP's retail sector.

In this new position, Davenport will be tasked with overseeing all retail led commercial projects delivered by BDP's Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield and Liverpool studios. Davenport will also be responsible for an increasing number of international commissions.

Speaking about the relocation, Teage said: "The new Liverpool studio will continue to deliver current major projects, seek and develop new commissions and maintain client relationships. This work will be led through its multi-disciplinary Urbanism group which includes town planning, architecture, landscape architecture and sustainability professions.

"The current Liverpool architectural staff will also adopt a far wider geographical remit and will work across all BDP projects emanating principally from our HQ in Manchester and our other northern studios.

"This change of emphasis is informed by BDP's belief that for Liverpool to continue successfully on its journey of urban renewal the role of the inner-urban and suburban areas of the city will be key. In addition, the rejuvenation of Liverpool's neighbouring towns, local centres and their hinterlands will also play a vital part in the region's successful regeneration.

"BDP has extensive experience in delivering masterplans and developing successful strategies for such areas in and around Merseyside, not least the Stirling shortlisted Liverpool One masterplan and most recently Chester's Renaissance Vision. We believe that the key development and design principles adopted from completing such significant commissions will help put us at the forefront of Merseyside's transformation into an internationally renowned City Region.

"It's a very exciting time for the practice and I am hugely looking forward to helping shape the next phase of Liverpool's renaissance."

BDP's new Liverpool studio is scheduled to open next March.
