BDP introduces apprenticeships
BDP has appointed its first apprentices as part of a new recruitment strategy supported by Manchester City Council, Liverpool Community College and Laing O'Rourke to improve skills in the North West.
The three apprentices were taken on as part of the Regeneration, Employment & Skills Plan on the Manchester Town Hall Complex Transformation Project where BDP is building services engineer and Laing the main contractor.
Daniel Ingham, 23, and Connor Sugden, 20, joined BDP's building services team; Callum Simister, 18, joined BDP as apprentice civil and structural engineer.
Gavin Elliot, director of BDP's Manchester Studio, said: "We are delighted to welcome the first apprentices to BDP, which forms part of our wider recruitment strategy to grow talent at BDP from the ground up. We are keen to deliver a holistic approach to workplace learning, sharing our knowledge and specialist expertise to hopefully equip these young people with the skills they need for a promising future.
"Daniel, Connor and Callum's enthusiasm and energy is something that made them stand out from the crowd during the selection process. We are very pleased to welcome them to the Manchester Studio and look forward to the positive contributions they will make."
This is the first time BDP's Manchester Studio has taken on apprentices, something the firm says it will do again across various specialist teams.
The three newcomers will attend Liverpool Community College on a day-release basis as part of a National Apprenticeship framework whilst working towards a professional qualification with the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers and Institution of Civil Engineers.
Daniel Ingham, speaking for all three, said: "With BDP being such a recognised international company I was extremely happy to be offered a place with them on their apprenticeship programme and was excited to get into the office and start learning all about building services engineering. Since starting the support I have received even so soon in the programme has been great. I am now looking forward to completing my college course and hopefully progressing onto a long and fulfilling career here at BDP."
