BDP boss appointed to Academy of Urbanism

Francis Glare, director and head of urbanism for BDP's Manchester studio, has been invited to join the Academy of Urbanism.

Launched in 2006, the Academy is an independent, cross-sector group of high level individuals and organisations that champions good urbanism.

Membership is gained by invitation only. Glare said: "The goal of the Academy is to help improve the quality of life through better planning and urban design, which is a philosophy both myself and BDP share. It is therefore a great honour to have been invited to join such a progressive organisation which is based on people with a common set of principles, rather than by their profession or qualifications."

Glare worked on the masterplan for Ropewalks in Liverpool, Smithfield in Manchester and Holbeck Urban Village in Leeds. He has also worked on visions and masterplans for Derby, Preston, Northampton, Burnley, Blackburn, Stockport and Wythenshawe.
