BBC formally gets Media City keys

Media City UK developer and owner, Peel Media, will officially hand over Building C to the BBC today for internal fit-out in preparation for becoming operational in 2011.

BBC staff toured the building yesterday and the corporation's invited guests will have the chance to look around the building after the lunchtime ceremony today.

The BBC is due to move 2,500 staff to Salford at the end of 2010, start of 2011. This will involve relocating five London-based departments, along with all local and network broadcasting currently operating out of Manchester city centre. Around 45% of London staff said they will relocate, leaving 800 posts to be filled by the BBC in Salford.
