Barratt to start on Bury homes by April

The housebuilder anticipates a start on site either this month or next on 268 homes in Bevis Green to the north of Bury.

Barratt Homes secured conditional approval for the site in October, subject to resolving an objection from the Environment Agency. This was resolved at the beginning of February, enabling the housebuilder to start construction in the coming weeks.

The 27-acre site is the former headquarters of car product manufacturer Tetrosyl, which partially moved into other premises in Rochdale in 2014 and initially retained its manufacturing operation on the site. This has also since been relocated.

Under the plans, the existing 140,000 sq ft of industrial buildings will be demolished to make way for the homes.

There will be 32 two-bedroom, 95 three-bedroom and 141 four-bedroom homes built, of which 33 are set to be affordable.

Avison Young is the agent and planner for the project.

Rhian Smith, associate director at Avison Young, said: “It is fantastic to have secured approval for such a large number of new homes in the Bury area, which will contribute significantly to alleviating the current housing shortage.”
