Barnfield Construction has been selected by NSG Group as preferred contractor for the new coated glass production facility based on the Cowley Hill site in St Helens.
The £4.9m design-and-build contract, due to be completed in April 2012, will provide a 150,000 sq ft facility for the production of energy-efficient Pilkington K Glass.
The 280 metre-long building will also contain 10,000 sq ft of new offices. NSG acquired Pilington in 2006 and announced plans for the £36m coating line in April this year.
Subject to final approval, it will be supported by a £5m award from the Government's Regional Growth Fund.
NSG has operations in 30 countries and employs 3,000 people in the UK.
Tim Webber, managing director at Barnfield Construction, said: "The NSG Group is an extremely prestigious company and we are pleased to be able to include them in our extensive list of clients and also to be associated with them on other schemes going forward."
