Bardsley wins social housing work

Bardsley Construction has won a £13.2m contract to build 78 affordable homes and a 70-unit extra care development in Salford for social housing provider City West Housing Trust.

The development site covers 13 acres of brownfield land in Amblecote Drive, Little Hulton.

Amblecote is the first affordable housing development scheme for City West in West Salford and will contain 73 family homes and five bungalows for older people, a 'home zone' street giving priority to pedestrians and cyclists, benches, street art and a children's play area. Bardsley is also building an extra care scheme providing accommodation for more than 70 residents who require extra care provision in order to live fulfilling, independent lives.

The new one- and two-bedroom apartments in the extra care scheme will sit alongside on-site facilities including a dining room, café, hairdresser, reception, communal lounges and private gardens.

Both schemes were designed by Liverpool-based DK Architects.

Bardsley is due to complete the development in June 2014.
