Bangor University tenders for marine research facility

Bangor University is seeking construction firms to build a new Innovation Centre at Menai Bridge in Anglesey, North Wales.

The new centre will be located at the university's School of Ocean Sciences' campus and provide laboratory and computing facilities for small and medium sized enterprises.

A mixture of office spaces, research facilities, marine sciences research laboratories, seawater aquariums and a multi-functional conference and meeting facilities is being proposed.

The facility is supporting Bangor University's Sustainable Expansion of the Applied Coastal and Marine Sectors project.

The project aims to expand the commercial marine sector in Wales by increasing collaborative research projects between businesses and universities.

The SEACAMS project received EU backing of £12.6m from the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Assembly Government last year.

The 13-month construction contract is valued at £4.25m.

Companies have until 5pm on 12 August to request PQQ documents with deadline for PQQs set at 12pm on 22 August. Invitations to tender to shortlisted companies will then be sent on 19 September 2011.
