Balfour wins £7m Pier Head contract

Merseytravel has selected Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering to design and build a new landing stage for the Mersey Ferries.

A temporary stage has been used since the last one sank in freak weather in early 2006.

Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering will carry out ground investigation works in the River Mersey and be responsible for detailed design, cost estimates, and construction, along with commissioning additional services and works.

The new landing stage is one of the final pieces in the redeveloped Pier Head, which has seen a new ferry terminal building, a new link canal link and extensive public realm. The new Museum of Liverpool by National Museums Liverpool will open in 2011. Neptune and Countryside's Mann Island apartments are due to complete this summer.
