Balfour trading in line with expectations

Construction giant Balfour Beatty said a number of contract wins had taken its order book over £14bn since the start of the year.

In a trading statement this morning, the company highlighted its operations in the North West as having a positive impact on the business, in particular its recent £1.9m acquisition of Stockport-based Multibuild Hotels & Leisure and Multibuild Interiors in February.

The statement said: "We will look to take advantage of opportunities outside the public sector, one example being our recent acquisition of Multibuild, which is focused on the private sector retail and leisure markets."

Balfour Beatty also said the public-private partnership it has formed with Blackburn with Darwen and Bolton councils, to deliver the £450m Building Schools for the Future schemes in the areas, has had a positive impact on the company.

Being appointed as preferred bidder on the £47m North West Fire and Rescue Services public-private partnership project was also noted to be a good infrastructure investment.

The company will be holding an annual general meeting later today.
