Russells Construction is due to start on site on 1 December at Axis, the 27-storey residential tower in Manchester city centre, according to developer Property Alliance Group.
Property Alliance Group and joint venture partner U+I, formerly known as Development Securities, were granted planning permission for the scheme in November 2014, replacing earlier plans for a 75,000 sq ft office block.
At the time that consent was granted, a statement from the joint venture said that they “anticipate a start on site in early 2015”. A completion date was scheduled for winter 2016.
However, according to Property Alliance Group, the project has been delayed due to negotiations with the Canal & River Trust. Further groundworks have been undertaken at the site over the past few months.
The development is now due to complete in summer 2018.
The Axis plot is off Albion Street next to Deansgate Locks, opposite First Street.
Designed by 5plus Architects, the tower will provide 172 one-, two- and three- bedroom luxury apartments. The 28th floor will be divided into two penthouses.
JLL is the residential agent. According to the developers, more than half of the apartments have been sold off plan.
