Axis resi approved
Plans for a 27-storey residential tower in Manchester city centre have been signed-off by the council.
Property Alliance Group and joint venture partner Development Securities submitted proposals for the scheme in August, to replace earlier plans for a 75,000 sq ft office block.
The Axis plot is off Albion Street next to Deansgate Locks, opposite Ask Development's First Street scheme.
Designed by 5plus Architects, the residential tower will provide 172 one-, two- and three- bedroom luxury apartments. The 28th floor will be divided into two penthouses. According to the developers, half of the apartments have been reserved for pre-sale.
JLL is the residential agent. The scheme is expected to start on site in 2015 and complete by winter 2016.
Deloitte Real Estate director John Cooper advised the joint venture on planning for the tower.
Work initially began on the proposed 18-storey office building in 2007 with completion scheduled for 2009 before activity stalled.
OH well, at least it will draw the eye from that ugly bigger tower next door…

Is the Beetham* Tower ugly or just bland? Seems to me its just a big Lego block, only offensive by its scale. I like to think Axis (and others in future?) might at least give Beetham some more appropriate context. I do hope this scheme works – this bit of Manchester seems ripe for proper city-centre high-rise living.
*refuse to call it the Hilton when they’ve only got half!

Amazing, I have left a comment without leaving a comment?! Anyway another eye sore to blot what is a rather dull skyline, and what is with the 30ft advertising screen – is there really any need?
