Awards: Marketing Blackpool, Windmill, 3D Reid

Marketing Blackpool won silver at the Meetings Industry Marketing Awards for its Conferences and Meetings guide, beating Austria's Vienna Convention Bureau and the Royal College of Physicians. Marketing Blackpool came second behind Hackney Venues. Conferences and Meetings was launched earlier this year and shows the contrast of how Blackpool's plentiful and unique conferencing venues are capable of catering for an array of organisations ranging from punk festivals and pigeon fanciers to political parties and international dance competitions.

Windmill Group (UK), demolition specialists with offices in Manchester, Runcorn and London, has been shortlisted for a Collaboration Award in the World Demolition Awards for a project undertaken jointly with Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service. The Collaboration Award and the winner will be announced at the World Demolition Awards dinner in Amsterdam on Thursday 31 October. The project Fire & Rescue's Urban Search and Rescue Team staff from across the North of England using a 20-metre drill tower at Philip's Park Community Fire Station. Windmill Group (UK) was selected to demolish the leaning tower following a formal tender process. Following their appointment, GMFRS approached Windmill about using the tower to learn new techniques from the demolition team and trial specialist equipment. In order to accommodate the training Windmill sought the necessary approvals from the Health & Safety Executive and the training collaboration was planned around the normal works. Experienced in rescue worldwide, members of the USAR teams from Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire, Merseyside and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Services were provided with an opportunity to learn techniques from Windmill Group and trial some of their specialist equipment outside of the confines of the usual reactive setting of natural disaster zone or collapsed building.

The Co-operative Group's new headquarters, One Angel Square in Manchester, won the UK Design & Innovation award, as well as Project of the Year at the national 2013 RICS Awards Grand Final, held at the Savoy, London. One Angel Square, a £100m building designed by Manchester-based architects 3D Reid, won the regional prizes for Design & Innovation and Project of the Year in May.
