Ask gains BREEAM ‘excellent’ at First Street

Ask Development's Number One First Street office building in Manchester has been awarded the 2006 BREEAM Post Construction certificate of 'excellent' for its environmental credentials.

The developer said only six other office buildings in the UK have achieved the same qualification and just one other in the North West.

The BREEAM assessment was awarded for the scheme's regeneration of an inner city brownfield site, public transport proximity, the responsible sourcing of materials and using a Considerate Contractor, providing local jobs for local people wherever possible.

The 180,000 sq ft building, currently without any occupiers since being finished last year, features an "extensive green roof" and will have a green wall installed in the future. The wider scheme will include 1.2m sq ft of offices, around 1,500 homes and 350,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space.
