Asda remove wind turbine plans in Barrow

Asda has put its planning application for a 19.5 metre wind turbine at its store in Barrow on hold.

The supermarket chain initially had plans to include the £55,000 device between its petrol station and Walney Road, last November.

Following talks with Barrow Council, however, Asda decided to withdraw its application.

Asda has not ruled out a complete dismissal and has said it intends to return with new proposals.

Controversy still surrounds the two wind turbines within the car park at the Tesco store in Barrow, off Hindpool Road, which have killed seagulls flying into their rotating blades.
