Argos tech store for Liverpool ONE

Retailer Argos has opened its first digital concept store in the North West on Liverpool ONE's lower South John Street.

The 3,089 sq ft technology-focused shop, which sees Argos' catalogues replaced with iPads, opened last weekend.

The store includes a 60-second service for items ordered and paid for online or via mobile, reflecting the fact that 40% of Argos' sales are now conducted via digital channels.

Argos has already trialled the technology at six locations across the UK, with plans to open a further 25 units by March 2015.

Miles Dunnett, head of asset management at Grosvenor Liverpool Fund, owner of Liverpool ONE, said: "We are committed to bringing new concepts from leading brands to Liverpool ONE, of which Argos is a prime example. The brand's new store is innovative in its embracing of how consumers are using technology. This proactive move to reflect a key change in consumer behaviour resonates with our own approach in all we do."

Argos is the third technology-focused brand to move to Liverpool ONE this year, following the opening of Samsung's concept store on Liverpool ONE's lower South John Street in April this year and the signing of Bose on Paradise Street. Other additions to Liverpool ONE in 2014 include expanded stores for Zara and Drome, and Liverpool debuts for restaurant brands TGI Friday's and Bill's.
